Learn web design.
You should know the technologies and languages like HTML, CSS, etc. but if you know only the mechanics of it by depending on templates and software, then you’re just following what someone else designed.
For a professional design, you need to know actual web design concepts and principles like usability, accessibility, navigation, user behavior, etc. so that you know how to use the different technologies properly.
For example, don’t just put in a navigational sidebar because other people have it, but know WHY it’s necessary. Once you understand the design concepts will you then be able to get creative and do something unique and functional too.

Only amateurs use templates.
Professionals make their own in coding properly!
