I just recently got Adobe Dreamweaver cs3 and i need to make a website for my photography business including a photogallery (preferably flash) but i have no idea where to start, ive been looking for free templates and found some that are okay looking but non flash, and they do not include a photogallery. So is there a way to add a gallery and would i need another program like flash. And if i wanted to have the whole site flash, could i do it in dreamweaver as well? if so, where could i find a free flash template to work off of.
ive tried looking into some people building one but its been wayyy too expensive, but ill try the sites that was given! and im gonna go with you pete h, and stay away from the flash. i want to try finding a pre made template and modifying it, but i haven’t came across one that had a good look.
*all i want is a simple home page with an about us,contact, and a portfolio link and the portfolio to have like 3 seperate groups for albums(weddings, people, children.etc)
Nothing too complicated, just a really simple smooth look, that doesn’t look amateur.
^and i would also need to know how to upload and manage the pictures.. cuz i have no idea where to begin
any suggestions?! i have about a week or so..
and i dont wanna pay for something that i could maybe do myself.
Yikes…whole site as flash? That is an accessibility nightmare..
Granted, you probably don’t have to worry about blind people coming to a photography site, but you definately don’t want to exclude the people who disable flash (IE disables it by default).
As a professional designer, I spend a lot of my time talking about the cons of using flash in a webpage…
Anyway…
Templates are your friend. There are some scripts out there for photo galleries that will help, but to be honest, a photography site should also have a content management system involved, if you plan to update it more than weekly.
Depending on where your site is hosted, you might have some content management systems pre-loaded in your control panel.
If you have no experience designing a site though, you might very well be in over your head. If you have a lot of time to get it up and running, buy a dreamweaver book or two (lynda.com’s Hand’s On Training by Chow is a great starter book, and it will introduce you to CSS, a crucial aspect of contemporary web design).
If you want it up asap though…you should consider hiring a pro. Getting a CMS is one thing, customizing it is an entirely different ballpark. If you are doing this for professional purposes, finding a professional is what you want to do. Your Dreamweaver purchase will not be for nothing though…as you can at least be your own webmaster.
Try freelance finder sites like guru.com, elance.com and rentacoder.com to get bids on a job.
does anyone know of any premade template websites that will let you buld your website and sell your Photography to your customers online?

I have a website through vistaprint, but it’s .vpew.com. I want it to be a .com without the extra, but I dont want to have to choose from specific templates. I dont know where to go, and I dont think I want to use yahoo. I want to use something more professional.
Hmm Actually How I would do it if you want to spend the least amount of money is go to Jalbums.com You can download online galleries from there and then head over to Godaddy.comand buy a domain name of choice… as cheap as 1.99 per domain name. and you can either stay on your current hosting site or go for another free one…
You can view my site as an example

http://www.1stoptutorials.com – In this tutorial we are going to add some text to our main content area. We will need to make that top blue bar and then drag an image into it. Again we will add some text to the right side content just by copying and pasting in the text from this lesson folder. As usually any probs let me know

I have been wanting to set up a website for my photography for quite some time but I’m not sure what I’m getting into or what to expect. The Yahoo templates look easy enough but I wanted to get feedback from others who have set up websites. Any suggestions, experiences, or advice to share? Thanks!
I used yahoo to create a web site. I also learned enough HTML to create one on my own and uploaded it to geocities/yahoo as the host. I would say you have nothing to loose. If you want to learn more about HTML I used this site:
http://www.htmlgoodies.com
It’s really like another other creative/artistic venture, you learn as you go and go as far as you want or have time to. Once you understand HTML you can click the View menu and choose Source in your web browser and see the code that created the page you are viewing. If you want to go even farther, you can learn about Java and Flash which are other ways to create even more interactive web pages.
Good luck, and have fun!

I’m trying to download a flash template but it’s not working. It’s a zip file and it says decompression failed. Is it my computer or the file that is faulty? I have a Mac. Any help would be GREAT! Thanks!

Try decompressing it with the command line utility, which indecently is what the OS uses I believe, but we can use its more verbose features to see why its failing.
Open terminal, I usually just use spotlight Apple + Space and type terminal.
Once terminal is open navigate to your where the file is stored, granted you are using defaults for your web browser your file will be stored on the desktop so:
cd ~/Desktop/
unzip -v fileName
The terminal will print out its procedure. If you still don’t find anything useful the file is corrupt.
PS I downloaded and tried unzipping using the same method on my Mac and found an error, so the file may be corrupt from the get go. I could of just told you this to begin with, but whats the fun in that.
